Shift Local Feature: Christine and Sergio

Have you guys seen this ridiculous incident involving an SF Public Defender who was arrested for doing her job that’s been floating around social media platforms yet? It’s pretty sad that I don’t even find this kind of abuse of police power shocking anymore.

If you’re just as appalled as I am, please sign this change.org petition to dismiss the case against Ms. Tillotson.

Today’s Shift Local Feature is actually about another Ideal Date Night Contest winner Christine, who by the way is a Public  Defender in Solano County.  She who won the BEERYSWEET category.  Thanks again Croll’s Pizza & Beer for sponsoring our contest!

Christine was born and raised in Union City, CA.  She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley and she went on to USF for law school.

Since our last Ideal Date Night contest, Christine met her now-boyfriend Sergio.  Sergio is a San Diego native and new to the SF Bay Area but quickly fell in love with the community.  He owns iSave Mobile Phone Repair, a mobile iPhone repair business that drives to your business, home or any place at your convenience.  When they are not working, this adorable couple loves to work out, run around Lake Merritt, take tango lessons, watch concerts, hit up Oakland’s local scene and explore its newest eateries and venues. In fact, Sergio also teaches Christine Tai Chi and will be opening a local school, Oaktown Tai Chi.

WHERE WAS YOUR FIRST DATE?

My first date with Sergio was at The Trappist in Old Town Oakland.Three hours, two hefs, two IPAs, and a strategic left calf touch later, Sergio walked me to my car and I agreed to another date.

WHAT IS YOUR DEFINITION OF LOCAL?

Local: Keeping it close and comfortable — within the boundaries of home.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE OAKLAND AS YOUR HOME?

Oakland is open-minded and integrated. From the Farmer’s Market to Friday Nights at the OMCA to Hiero Day, Oakland has a variety of ethnic, cultural, artistic, and outdoor events. It’s centrally located within the bay area, but you can “travel the world” without leaving town.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LOCAL & INDIE BUSINESS?

We love walking down to the Grand Lake Theatre and Walden Pond Books on Grand Ave.
