Marc and I went on a last-minute trip to LA last weekend and even though the trip was short, we had a blast!
Nothing beats sunny California. So. Cal folks are so spoiled 🙂
One of our favorite things to do when we travel is to discover awesome indie businesses. Here are some of our favorites from the weekend:
The Cow’s End Cafe
34 W Washington Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90292
We got their iced tea to cool off after hanging out in Venice Beach. They serve it with frozen fruit – so yum! Check out their history page. It’s always so cool to read about how these local shops survive the big coffee chains’ takeover of the market.
317 S Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90013
We thoroughly enjoyed having breakfast at Eggslut. I had the bacon, egg and cheese on Portuguese bun and Marc had a coddled egg on top of a smooth potato purée, poached in a glass jar and served with toasty crostini. I’m salivating thinking about it.
Ninong’s Pastries and Cafe
17705 Chatsworth St. Granada Hills, CA 91344
Disclaimer – my mom’s first cousin owns Ninong’s. They serve breakfast all day (if you’ve never had Filipino breakfast, you’re missing out) and have a variety pastries. They also serve Filipino coffee or barako which is strong and delicious. My favorite of course is their famous ube pancake (pictured above) which is topped with coconut syrup. They also have mango and pandan pancakes which I did not get to try but I am looking forward to going back soon.
Okay, now I’m hungry. Have a great hump day folks!
