Create social change through Art: Shift local presents a photo contest

We created Shift Local to encourage the SF Bay Area to make a shift from spending at big box chains and retailers to local mom and pop shops.  Every $ you spend at a local business helps our local economy.  In addition to blogging about our favorite local businesses, Shift Local also organizes fun contests, promotions and campaigns in collaboration with local businesses and organizations.

Since moving to Oakland, we have met with so many awesome local businesses and organizations.  We truly are blessed to have such an amazing network of like-minded folks in the East Bay.

Although we are still in the midst of planning with Gondola Servizio, Lake Chalet and This Is Oakland, we are happy to announce that we will be hosting a photo contest for folks who love The Town.

We are also excited about our partnership with Pro Arts, a local artistic hub for Oakland and the Bay Area and proud to announce that we will be donating $1 to Pro Arts for every photo submission to the photo contest.  So make sure you follow us on Facebook or subscribe to our blog to keep up to date!

So in the spirit of Art and Social Change, here’s an inspirational quote from Andy Warhol (happy late birthday!):

P.S. Did you know Andy Warhol left his entire estate, with the exception of a few modest legacies to family members, to create a foundation dedicated to advancement of visual arts?  In fact, Pro Arts is one of the foundation’s recipients!
