Shift Local in Yosemite

We spent the weekend in Yosemite to celebrate Earth Day and there’s nothing like enjoying what nature has to offer to remind us why we need to take better care of this planet.  There were so many waterfalls, we saw a few deers, squirrels and different kinds of birds, and we have never seen so many stars at night!  This was our first time visiting Yosemite and we can’t wait to go back.

How can you shift local when you go camping?  Here are a couple of pointers:

  1. Buy food and snacks at a local grocery store or at a farmer’s market and your camping gear at a local store
  2. Look up local spots to visit on your way to your camp site.  For example, patronize an independent, locally-owned restaurant instead of a national chain when you get hungry on the road.

You don’t have to get everything at a local store but if you make a conscious decision to buy some things there, it will make a difference.

Happy Earth Day!
